General Manager’s Comments
2nd Quarter 2010
Spring is upon us and hot weather is not far away. The pools will be opened on May 29th and will be open until September 6. The section 3 pool house will have a fresh look to it as all the rotted wood and beams are being replaced. Also the members of section 3 took it upon themselves to repaint the structure and it looks so much better. We will continue to have water aerobics at the main pool in the morning and will also provide complimentary swimming lessons. If you are interested in these lessons, please call Kay Sloan at 903-769-4044.
We have been very busy beautifying the ranch in preparation for the summer. Many of these projects are very visible including the front entry sign on the west side. Many homeowners have commented positively on its beauty and the landscaping around it just adds to its appeal. Split rail fence was added at the west entry and by the security office. Two other areas that were landscaped are section 6 entry way and the entrance to the administration office. A water feature has been installed at the entrance to the administration office, which includes several Koi fish and many new plants. These changes radiate a very warm ambiance upon entering these areas.
Two other projects recently completed that have upgraded the look of Holly Lake Ranch was the painting of the lodge and the power washing and sealing of the deck behind the Holly Hall and the Lodge. The deck looks brand new and really stands out.
Maintenance has beautified Holly lake area immensely. The beach area has been completely revamped with the addition of new sand and the new construction of the retaining wall and stairs. Also the boardwalks, as well as the docks have been completely redone. The job looks terrific! On April 30, we will also be restocking Holly lake with crappie and blue gill. Greenbriar lake will also be restocked on the same day. At Lake Greenbriar many of you have probably noticed the complete renovation of the buildings by the old mail boxes and they look great. They will house the new fishing club which has been active scheduling events for the summer. I would like to recognize Danny Ouimet, Jimmy Pollard and Russ Thurau with the wonderful job they did with the building and with organizing the fishing club.
The fitness center has a new look to it as three new pieces of equipment have been added to the inventory. These include a recumbent bike, an elliptical machine and a bench press which included all the weights. Thanks goes out to J.C Catalanato and Jake Pope in all their efforts in setting it up. For those that work out, I am sure you were happy to see the new water fountain. No longer do you have to suffer through warm water.
On the golf course, tournament season is beginning to ramp up so hopefully all of you will take advantage of the clinics that Carl Worley is putting on. Recently half of the mats on the driving range were replaced. They were in dire need of replacing. The other half will be replaced next year. Also a new gator has been leased to replace the old one which finally died. This gator is used to pull the ball picker on the driving range and will help greatly in this endeavor. The golf course itself is ready to burst out green with a little warm weather in the evening.
The security department is remaining busy keeping the Ranch safe. Recently, they purchased a new truck that is equipped with a defibrillator and other first aid gear. It also has radar and a camera so be careful out there and watch your speed. The security guards would appreciate your following the speed limit, because they would rather not give out tickets.
One final note is the protest of the water rate increase was held on April 27 in Tyler and we are waiting for the results. Hopefully we will be happy with the outcome.
As you can see much has already been completed in 2010 and much more is planned for the rest of the year. I am very excited for these advances. I would like to thank all the employees for their efforts in helping to make Holly Lake a great place and all of you for your support.
Please keep Gary Gibson, our assistant maintenance supervisor, in your prayers. His wife was recently diagnosed with cancer.
