2010 is going to be a very exciting year for the Greater Hawkins Veterans Memorial Association (GHVMA). It is the 10th Anniversary of the Memorial in Hawkins, and we will be observing this in November at our Veterans Day Program. On June 1st the GHVMA will hold it's 10th Annual Golf Tournament at Holly Lake Ranch. For those who attended last year's tournament, we are looking to build onto the events even further. Last year we had nearly 160 golfers play in our tournament. We are hoping to increase this number this year by providing players with not only a great day of golf, but a spectacular program before hand which will further honor our Veterans and the many sacrifices they made.
The GHVMA will be making a number of improvements to the Memorial Park this year. The improvements include adding a storage facility and making the necessary landscape changes which will improve the grounds itself. The storage facility will enable us to consolidate all our items tied to the Memorial in one location, and better control them. The landscape changes to be made will allow us to maintain the Memorial grounds more effectively. The completion of these projects will be subject to our success with our Annual Fundraisers.
In 2010 the GHVMA will evaluate the need for adding two additional marble panels to the Memorial walls. We still have room to add names to the existing Memorial this year, but we must take steps now to plan for future needs. Adding two new panels to the Memorial will be very expensive, and our future fundraisers will dictate the timing of such.
In September 2009 a new Veteran's group was established in Holly Lake Ranch. This group is becoming more and more active with the GHVMA. The two Veteran's groups compliment each other very well, and each work to address and promote the needs of the individual Veterans and our Memorial. To become a member of the GHVMA please contact Ron Szczepanski at 903-769-3070.
Individuals wanting to be part of the Holly Lake Ranch Vets should contact Greg Demko at 903-769-5617.
