RFID Gate Access

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are RFID tags?

A: RFID tags, also knows as Radio Frequency Identification Device tags, are utilized for property owners to gain access to HLRA through the gates.  There is a cost to the property owner for each vehicle on which one is installed.

Q: How do RFID tags work?

A: Each gate has an electronic reader that identifies the authorized vehicle by reading the RFID tag.  You should wait for the gate to cycle after the vehicle in front of you enters.  You will know your tag has been read when the arm lowers and raises again.

Q: How do I get an RFID tag put on my vehicle?

A: You obtain RFID tag registration through the HLRA Administration office, which is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Proof of residency and payment must be presented to Administration when you purchase your tag.  You then must take the tag to the Security Office on the East side where they will apply and activate the tag.

Q: Can I get an RFID tag put on my son's/daughter's vehicle?

A: You can only get tags on vehicles for anyone in the household that has proof of residency.

Q: If I get my windshield replaced, can I just put the old tag on the new windshield?

A: The tags deactivate once removed from the vehicle.  You have to purchase a new tag to replace it.

Q: What do I do when I purchase a new vehicle?

A: You obtain your RFID tag via the process above.  When you receive your permanent license plates, you need to contact the Security Office so they can update the system with the new information.

Q: Is there a limit to how many vehicles can get an RFID tag?

A: There is no limit.  You may purchase as many as you need, but you must provide proof of residency for drivers.

Q: Can I get an RFID tag put on my motorcycle?

A: Yes, there are two choices.  You may get a tag made especially for motorcycles that is applied to the headlight.  Alternately, if your motorcycle has a windshield, you may have your tag applied there.

Q: How long do RFID tags remain active?

A: The RFID tag is good for as long as you own the vehicle, and you are a Member in Good Standing.  See Rules and Regulations for more information.  If you get a new car or a new windshield, you will be required to purchase a new tag.  If you sell a vehicle, please contact the Security Office so they can deactivate the tag.

Q: What if I don't want to get an RFID tag?

A: If you do not want to get an RFID tag, you will be required to stop by the Security Office to receive a printed pass, which is good for up to 7 days at a time.

Q: How do guests obtain entry into Holly Lake Ranch?

A: They must obtain a QR code pass from the Security Office on the East Side.  In order for them to receive a pass, you must register them in advance on  Gate Access website, by using the Gate Access App (available for iOS and Android), or by calling the Security Office at 903-769-2164.
